Kylie Jenner Merry Lip Kit and Burgundy Kyshadow Palette unbox & swatches & review (+mini non-kylie giveaway)

22 January 2017

Heyyyy everyone, this is going to be a lengthy post but make sure you stay til the end to see what I have for everyone ok! This is actually my "end-of-the-sem" / Christmas present to myself because the last semester was sooooo crazy tiring so I saved up big time and placed an order the moment everything restocked but who knew two weeks later they'll have a sweet promotion that would've saved me 30$ :(

Decided to unbox + swatch + quick demo of the products on a video! So check it out if you're too lazy to read haha

Since Kylie Cosmetics doesn't ship to Malaysia, I've shipped my order to my aunt's place in Singapore instead. When she received the parcel, she sent a photo of the box to me and it got me panicking! I mean, I wouldn't be so worried if I was shipping liquid lipsticks but the thing is I was shipping a 42$ palette over all the way from the United States! Thankfully everything arrived safe and sound :')

Now let the unboxing begin! Upon opening the box, you get 'KYLIE' printed on the inner top lid with the classic white drips on the top. Similar to most parcels, Kylie Cosmetics ships their products with foam sponges to ensure that your products don't break during shipment. All orders will come with an invoice as well.

Here's the stuff I got! I picked up Kylie's holiday edition Merry Lip Kit (30$) as well as her burgundy Kyshadow palette (42$) This was a pretty huge bank account damage for me because this is actually my first time splurging so much on just two makeup products in a go! T_T

Here's whats written on the back of the lenticular "Kylie's Eyes" card.

Here's what you get in the Merry lip kit for 30$ - 1 Merry lip liner & 1 Merry matte liquid lipstick. The lip kit is packed in a silver rectangular box. Unlike the usual lip kits where the boxes open from the top, this limited edition Merry Lip Kit comes in a pretty sturdy hard box. (like gift boxes) The box has a reflective silver finish to it with the product info printed in white.

Now here's some close-up photos of the lip kit + swatches without filters

Merry is a cool tone red. It dried matte and was very difficult to remove with my usual makeup remover. I'm not an oil-based makeup remover user but if using makeup wipes + my usual water based makeup remover + 2 rounds of vaseline doesn't get it off, it's an issue for me. I don't use many lip liners but this lip liner in particular went on very smoothly. The liquid lipstick had a pleasant sweet scent to it. For a matte liquid lipstick, I'm actually pretty glad that the formula didn't completely dry my lips out but I strongly advise that if you have dry lips like me, be sure to exfoliate first!!

Next up is Kylie's Burgundy Kyshadow palette.

Overall I don't have much to comment on the outer box, I personally like how the edges is a metallic pink to indicate that it's the burgundy palette! It's great for those who owns her bronze & holiday palette as they could stack the three palettes and won't have a hard time searching for the right one. Not cool that they didn't state that it's the burgundy palette on the front of the packaging though! I also liked the simplicity of it's packaging though I did wish that the material of the palette wasn't a cardboard-like one but rather a plastic/metal kind?? If that even make any sense haha! Having a mirror or not doesn't make much of a difference to me as I probably would never end up using it unless I'm travelling with it. Though I'm sure for most people, having a mirror would be a plus point. (fyi, the holiday palette comes with one!)

Here's a closeup of the shades without filters. I've picked this palette because I personally find these shades very wearable especially when it'll complement my go-to burgundy liquid eyeliner very well.

As you could see from the swatches above, this palette has a good selection of mattes and shimmery shades. When I'm searching for a palette, I personally want a balance of bright shimmer shades and matte shades. I want transition shades and a good eye popping colour. Which I really wished it came with a brighter pearl shade I could use on my inner corners because Naked isn't exactly bright and popping enough for me. Neither was LA bright enough either. :(

Here's a quick experimental look I've tried out with this palette + Merry Lip Kit. (Yes, I've made sure I PS-ed my face smooth smooth for the photos lmao. I've tried to apply very minimal face makeup on during the video because my skin isn't exactly in a very good state so please bear with my skin throughout the video T_T tqqq

A few closeups on the look created using the Burgundy Kyshadow Palette

Closeup on Kylie's Merry Lip Kit. I personally love the colour and would definitely wear it when I'm feeling bold. Since they're so hard to remove, I guess it's pretty obvious that these lip kits are not joking about being long wearing. They're also almost kiss proof. Almost!

[ F I N A L    T H O U G H T S ]
The two products I've tried did come with a fairly high price but I will say that the pigmentation of the Kyshadows as well as the "not-so-drying" liquid lipstick formula does make up for it. I understand that you're also paying for the Kylie brand name. Personally, I'm obsessed with burgundy shades that's why when this palette launched, I knew that I just had to get it. So I saved up, and got it when they've launched the Merry Lip Kit. (that way I can justify my order and get free shipping lol) J

[Burgundy Kyshadow]
If you're looking for pigmentation + burgundy shades in a palette, I do believe that there are much cheaper alternatives in the market. However if you're a huge fan of Kylie, and you don't need a super duper bright popping shade like what I need, then go ahead! I personally don't regret my purchase as I could always reach out to one of the super shock colourpop singles for my inner eye corner! :) Also don't get me wrong, I really love the colour combinations of this palette, but my one and only main concern is really just the lack of a super popping inner eye highlight.

[Merry Lip Kit]
I don't know what benefits Diamond powder brings to me, but forget about that, lets talk packaging. I'm a HUGE fan of this packaging. I love it when anything comes in sturdy boxes because yes, I hoard packaging that are nice. So when I saw the box, I was like YES. My money has been justified. Kind of. Ok not really, because the shade is common. But lets talk about the lip liner and formula. My first ever lip liner was from NYX many years ago and because they tugged on my lips so bad, I've just stopped using lip liner until now. This Merry lip liner went on so smoothly. Plus as someone with super dry lips, matte liquid lipsticks scare me. There is only a handful of Colourpop matte liquid lips that I could wear without it flaking all over my lips. So thankfully, I've learned that as long as I exfoliate my lips, my Kylie's 30$ Merry Lip Kit will work pretty well for me. They don't dry my lips out throughout the day either, which is great for a matte liquid lipstick. Colour is gorgeous too! Only issue I have with it is just the removing process. Perhaps I really do need to get an oil makeup remover just for my liquid lipsticks?

[ O V E R A L L ]
Are they worth the buck? Yes and No. The products did not wow me. I don't think that they're too overly priced either because as I've mentioned, they are good quality stuff + the name. Though if you don't care about the name and just really want the shades, you can definitely find a cheaper alternative because it's not worth your 30-42$.

Would I repurchase from the brand: Perhaps not the Kyshadows unless there's gonna be a palette with colour selections that wows me. Lip kits? Sure! I'm actually looking into getting my hands on 22 & Kristen. But first, let me save.

Candy Gets Hungry #6: Everything is Popssible - A Magi Planet Popcorn Studio review

20 January 2017

Work is starting to pile up these few days, which is actually a good thing for me since I personally like how it keeps me occupied. Though I must admit, staring at the computer screen for long hours does drain my energy and give me constant headaches @_@ Anyways, to those reading this post, I just wanted to pop in and give a short review on these yummy popcorns that has been keeping me and my colleagues at work company as a yummy addictive office snack. :p

Before I begin, I would like to thank All Young/Magi Planet for sending these popcorns to me to try. I won’t dwell in much about Magi Planet but you know there’s always that one store at shopping malls giving out free popcorn samples? I’m not sure if there are other brands out there that does the same, but the ones I always see giving out free samples generously are from Magi Planet (formerly known as Planet Popcorn) And when knowing that Magi Planet was rebranded from Planet Popcorn, I already knew that it’ll be good!

So, as I’ve mentioned earlier, Magi Planet has sent me a bundle of 8 packets of popcorn to try (https://goo.gl/cqoepL), 4 flavours in total. Namely, Chili Cheese, Crystal Salted Caramel, Takoyaki, and Corn Soup. Their popcorns are available in two sizes, 1 regular size pack as well as a handy “travel pack”. To identify which packet was which flavour, I had to look at the back where there is a label with the flavour, grammage, ingredients etc listed on it. However, a quick recommendation for the brand would be to include an English label for those who does not read mandarin. Now moving on~ Let’s find out which flavour did I love the best and the least :o Also I have rated the popcorns below next to the name with the highest being 5 ♡s

Chili Cheese
This was by far my favourite! I’m not a fan of spicy food but there’s just something about this flavour that draws me in so much! This flavour has a sweet and salty taste to it. All the popcorns had a fluffy crunch which was pretty nice because it doesn’t stick to my teeth even though they were both soft and crunchy and the same time!! Though for those that would prefer a solid crunch when it comes to their popcorns, keep this in mind alright? As for those that isn’t into spicy flavours like me, I would  recommend this to you guys because it has a nice cheesy flavour to it with just a touch of spice. I did wish that this was a little less sweet though!

Corn Soup
I’m surprised that this flavour really lived to its name! In fact, it was the only flavour that truly wow-ed me because it felt like something I’ve never tried before. I loved the corn flavour in it but wasn’t so big of a pepper fan. The pepper wasn’t spicy or hot but rather I personally dislike strong pepper flavouring in my food. Apart from that I did find this flavour slightly sweeter than I personally wanted it to be. Some of my colleagues really loved it though!!

Takoyaki
To me this didn’t really taste like takoyaki but rather those sweet-savoury Japanese biscuits with seaweed on them? Yup! I think that’s the best way I could describe this flavour. Although it doesn’t taste like what it’s called, I’d say it’s close? Overall taste of this is pretty tasty :)

Crystal Salted Caramel
This is by far the most popcorn-like flavour a popcorn could ever get. This flavour will bring you back to the basics but I highly recommend it to those who finds the typical caramel popcorns too sweet because in my opinion this was actually the least sweet out of the bunch I’ve tried. If you’re concerned about the saltiness from the Himalaya salt used, fret not because only a touch of salt was added and it actually gave a great flavouring to it :)

Overall, I think these flavours tasted great. Although when it comes to flavours, I do believe that it is a hit and miss sort of thing for everyone depending on our individual preferences. But one thing for sure is that these flavours really do live up to its given name, so good job on that Magi Planet!
If you’re interested in getting your hands on these popcorns, I have a promo code for you guys! Just key in CANDACELOVEPOPCORN for RM10 off your purchase upon checking out :) Just remember, everything is popssible!!

Until next time!

*** Although these popcorns were sent to me, the review above is based on my honest opinions ***

Althea Addiction #6: Mask mask masks

15 January 2017

Hey everyone! I'm back again with ANOTHER Althea Addiction post to showcase yet ANOTHER Althea unboxing haha! This time it's a small one because I only picked up a few things from their site that I've been tempted to try out for quite some time.

I ordered my box during their Christmas season, which explains why I got their beautiful navy Christmas box. Like all of their Christmas boxes, it came with these super cute cards! (I know la I have been quite busy lately so now only I post )

And here's what I got! So far the only masks I've tried out of the three are the Petitfee Gold eye & spot patch masks and the Float mask bundle. I've only opened the float mask bundle yesterday and the only mask I've tried from the bundle is their nose pore mask. At first I thought it was those nose pore strips where you stick on your nose, once it's dry, you peel away then you can see all your sebum on it HAHAHA, but NO. It's not!!! :O

I checked back Althea's website to see the instructions on using this nose pore strip and apparently it's a much more gentle way of clearing the sebum sitting on the surface of your nose. All you have to do is put it on your nose then 15-20mins later, the essence of the nose pore strip will magically soften/melt the sebum away. My nose felt super duper smooth until now! It's one of those rare sheet masks where I can actually feel an instant effect omg. But before I give a full review on it, I'll put a few more sheets to test first!

Also, CNY is coming! My mini-thank you surprise for everyone will be announced really soon! So stay tune alright! Also, if you like the box you see above(just the box, not the contents! ahaha) remember to check back my blog this week to make sure you don't miss out on my thank you surprise ok!

Candy Gets Hungry #5: Cheese wheel pasta in Petaling Jaya @ Jekyll & Hyde, Empire Damansara

3 January 2017

I haven't done a 'Candy Gets Hungry' post in a pretty long time! So here's another fancy one to share with you guys!

Couple weeks back I was at Empire Damansara attending Cure's media event in which you could read about it HERE :) I remember about a week before the event, I watched one of Buzz Feed's "worth it" videos featuring pasta. That's when the cravings started to kick in but!!! I fought it!....Until the next day I came across a facebook ad on Jekyll & Hyde's cheese wheel pasta and gave into temptation. So since I knew that I was gonna be at Empire Damansara til 5, I might as well stay for dinner so I've decided to share that post to my boyfie. Thus, he had became my calorific partner in crime.

Jekyll & Hyde at Empire Damansara has two sections. Hyde is a gastropub + cafe and Jekyll has a classier fine dining sort of setting. This is actually my second visit to Jekyll & Hyde. My first visit there was an impromptu one with Kirstin. We had their pork bolognese spaghetti lunch set that comes with a glass of bottomless ice lemon tea for RM15. The meal size was a decent portion, however if you're a big eater, it might not be filling enough. Personally I haven't came across many places that serves pork bolognese and the only other place besides of Jekyll & Hyde that I know of is J&D Espresso. Both places served pretty good pork bolognese but I personally think Jekyll & Hyde's lunch set was the more "value for the buck" option!

Without delaying any further, let's hop back into our main topic! So me and my boyfriend was there for dinner because the cheese wheel pasta is only available from 6PM-10:30PM on weekdays and 11AM to 10:30PM on weekends. When we got there, we enquired about their cheese wheel pasta and the waiter then led us to their posh looking section, Jekyll. The interior looked fancy, a complete opposite of their gastropub cafe next door (which is the one I had my lunch set at previously) Once seated, we were each given a menu and that's when I've started deducting a couple marks from the place. This isn't coming from a design perspective but rather a customer's perspective. I flip through a menu to decide what I want based on my cravings + financial capability. The pasta/carbs & soup section was very uninformative. If the cheese wheel pasta was a permanent menu item available at those hours, I'd suggest having that on the menu with the price listed unless you're telling me that the prices varies every day.

The soup of the day - Potato Bacon soup (RM18) Taste wise of this soup was alright but I would've liked it better if the soup was strained because it wasn't as smooth as I wanted it to be.

I'm not sure if it's just me but if the two menu items I want to order does not have a pricing on the menu and I'm already seated in a fancy interior restaurant, I'll start to panic thinking if I could actually afford the meal or I'll have to walk out. So since their menu wasn't very helpful, we had to ask what soup and pasta was available and also the price. Which did irritate me a little. Thankfully, both menu items were within our budget la haha.

Next and the only "main" dish we ordered was their cheese wheel pasta with bacon bits and prawns. (RM42) The portion was large enough for the two of us because the cheesy cream sauce is pretty filling. But Yhang told me he could actually finish the whole plate hahaha! Too bad they didn't have any other pastas available because I only had cravings for pasta and if we were to order two cheese wheel pasta, it would've been too much for us. On the side note, I actually appreciate the waitress for letting us know that one plate of cheese wheel pasta was enough for the two of us. Because after finishing the soup and pasta, we had just enough room in our stomach for a glass of butterscotch milk from Harajucube.

The pasta was delicious so this was definitely my "mood saver" of the night. When the soup didn't wow me, I was praying so hard that the pasta will. The prepping session of our meal was rather interesting to watch as they've precooked the pasta in the kitchen and began tossing the pasta, prawns and bacon on the block of cheese to evenly coat the pasta.

and viola. Cheesie goodness.

Would I come back for the pasta? Definitely. It's not everywhere you'll find Cheese Wheel pasta in Malaysia and I think paying RM42 for it was a fair price. In fact for the ingredients given, four big prawns + bacon bits, and also because not many places offers this dish in Malaysia, it's worth your RM42! So lets say you're planning to try their cheese wheel pasta with a friend, you can just split the bill and it'll be RM21 a person. Ok la, it's still on the pricier side for a meal but I think it's a standard cafe/restaurant price for pastas in shopping malls and most non-halal western dining places. Plus, you're paying for the atmosphere too! As for the soup, I think I'll make a past unless they're serving a different soup on my next visit.

||Ratings||
Taste: 7/10 (Pasta was good, but the soup would've been better if it was smoother)
Price: 6/10 (It's the standard cafe/restaurant price but it's still considered pricey for an everyday meal)
Service: 8/10 (Waiters there were pretty friendly :) )
Plating: 5/10 (My soup wasn't instagram-worthy)
Would I revisit? Yes.
Suggestions: Update the menu more variety of available pasta[s] with the prices please :)

Club Clio launch @ Sunway Pyramid

1 January 2017

Hey everyone! How're you guys liking 2017 so far? My first day of 2017 is pretty good, been swatching a lot of new makeup from different brands and will definitely share my swatches + reviews with everyone real soon! Now let's start the year with a little "beauty update" for all my k-beauty lovers. Two weeks back, I attended Club Clio's launch at Sunway Pyramid. A brief introduction on what Club Clio is - An award winning South Korea cosmetics company with three major brands developed under them, namely Clio Professional, Peripera and Goodal.

Did you know this is actually Club Clio's first store in Southeast Asia? The Malaysia outlet is currently managed by Naga Asian Beauty Sdn. Bhd., helmed by it's CEO Jace Tan. Originally starting out as a nail distribution company, they've jumped into the Korean wave, picking up a number of brands covering cosmetics of all forms. Since then, Naga Asian Beauty has been distributing to major chain outlets such as Watsons and SASA.

Club Clio's launch had an array of activities lined up for everyone - a stunning kpop dance performance opening act, guest celebrity appearance - Ms Joanne Yew, a runway show as well as a lucky draw at the end. Photo above are models at the Club Clio launch featuring products from Clio Professional's latest holiday collection - Turn On The Light!

This series features bright, bold and neon colours perfect for those looking into creating a flawless long lasting club/party makeup look. Plus the packaging looks amazing!

A closeup on the packaging from this series!

At the launch, we also got to meet Club Clio's Head makeup artist, Ms Song.

Now time for a sneak peak of what you could expect from Club Clio @ Sunway Pyramid.

Each of us were given a box of goodies along with a RM100 voucher to spend on that day so as soon as the lucky draw winner was announced, all of us began swatching products, and discussing what to get with our voucher.

This product was recommended to me by one of the lovely ladies working at Club Clio, This is goodal's Premium snail tone-up cream. It's a product to apply all over your face for a brightening effect. This is also a pretty good product to use on those lazy days where all you want to do is draw your brows, add a touch of this snail tone-up cream for a fairer complexion and you're good to go!

Some facial sheet masks

Peripera's lip tints were packed in SUPER cute packaging and came in a whole variety of colours and finishes for you to choose from! I had such a hard time making up my mind on what colours to get I think I've spent over an hour just in front of peripera's lip tints!

Single eyeshadows are available for sale. I personally prefer their shimmer ones as I find them more pigmented than their matte shadows. You could also purchase an empty palette from them to customize your own palette of shadows to carry on the go :)

For a more 'worth your buck' option, Clio Professional also offers eye shadow palettes retailing at RM151.90 each.

Some mini lip tint kits from Peripera are also available. I forgot to snap a photo of it's contents but these kits are great for those that are interested in trying out their lip tints' formula as well as a variety of colours. Also, I personally love minis because they're really good for travelling! + they're super cute ahahah

Thank you Club Clio for these lovely gifts!

Super cute Peripera X Powerpuff Girls collaboration!

This is what I got with my RM100 voucher + a little top up haha

I have been hearing so much about how great Clio's eyeliners are so I'm super excited to finally be able to try it out! I've been splurging a lot on makeup these days if not I would've gotten their gel-pencil eyeliners as well. I tried them out on my hand that day and they felt amazing because they glide on so well and did not smudge!!

I also picked up two tints during their launch. Both tints had a pleasant sweet scent to it. One is a water tint formula while the other is a matte velvet one.

I actually got the water tint because of it's super cute water bottle packaging! The box also looked super cute because its a milk carton packaging. How la can one resist something like that! If you have not checked out Club Clio @ Sunway Pyramid, you should drop by and check them out now! On the side note, CNY is coming really soon and if you like what you see in this post, I have a surprise for everyone so stay tuned! ^^
