Althea X Get It Beauty: Real Fresh Skin Detoxer Masks Review

23 August 2018

Hello kawans! In my previous blog post I mentioned that I was sent a box of goodies as a welcome gift on board the Althea Angels club. Included inside were two of Althea's newest products and today I will be sharing my thoughts on them! The products sent to me are called the Real Fresh Skin Detoxer and these products are created in-collaboration with the popular Korean beauty tv show - Get It Beauty. If you're interested to read my review on these products, do keep reading until the end!

Get It Beauty?
First things first, allow me to quickly introduce Get It Beauty. For those wondering, Get It Beauty is Korea's top beauty TV show featuring new beauty trends, makeup tips, and even resourceful information from dermatologists and pharmacists. From how a product fares to it's ingredient composition, Get It Beauty looks at products from all angles to provide their viewers an educational experience.

Real Fresh Skin Detoxer
Althea is always looking into creating new products based on our beauty needs. This time round, they collaborated with Get It Beauty to introduce the Real Fresh Skin Detoxer duo. With the thought of creating a quick 'refining and purifying' beauty fix for those living a hectic schedule with no time to spare, the Real Fresh Skin Detoxer duo is a 10-second daily wash off mask + cleanser that ensures your skin stay healthy and clean everyday.

Wait what? 10 seconds??? Yup!!

The Real Fresh Skin Detoxer masks are available in 2 variants - Rose and Green tea.
The 'Rose flavour' mask is recommended to be used during your morning routine while the 'Green Tea flavour' on the other hand is recommended to be used during your night routine. With this said, feel free to swap the order and use these masks any time of the day you prefer as it really depends on your skin type and personal preferences.

Real Fresh Skin Detoxer - Rose [Refining]
This rose-infused skin detoxer is recommended as a start to your morning routine as it is supposed to refine your skin by balancing out your skin's pH levels and gently even out your skin's texture in prep for makeup application.

Apart from being a 10-second wash-off mask, this product actually has a 2-in-1 function where it also doubles as a gentle gel-foam cleanser. After acting as a 'mask' for a short 10 seconds, when added water, it will react with the coconut extract in the product and lather up into foamy petal bubbles. This transforms the mask into a gentle cleanser that removes any residue and dirt from your pores.

[List of ingredients]
Water, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Potassium Cocoyl Glycinate, Acrylates Copolymer, Peg-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Extract, Pteris Multifida Extract, Cynara Scolymus (Artichoke) Leaf Extract, Ulmus Davidiana Root Extract, Amaranthus Caudatus Seed Extract, Rosa Centifolia Flower Water, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Rosa Gallica Flower Powder, Methylpropanediol, Butylene Glycol, Polyquaternium-51, Beta-Glucan, Betaine, Fragrance, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol

[Key ingredients]
Premium May rose petals + extract
One of the key ingredients used are Premium May roses. This particular choice of rose was chosen because compared to normal rose extracts, the premium May rose extract is said to be more effective at balancing out the skin's natural pH at a level of 5. It also claims to deeply moisturize, giving your skin a radiant glow after use. The tiny pieces of rose petals on the other hand serves a purpose to refine your skin and improve circulation, ensuring the skin is revitalized, supple, and bright.

May rose petals and extract aside, another key ingredient you can find in this facial mask is Glycerin. Based on a quick Skin Carisma search along with the product info on Althea's website, this ingredient is good for dry skin as it is used to attract moisture to your skin, preventing dehydration

Fresh outta the tube, the product is clear yellow-ish in colour and has a thick gel-like consistency to it. Those tiny brown specs you see are actually rose petals! The petals are very soft but most probably you wouldn't feel it on your skin either.

As for how it smells, it does carry a rather strong rose scent with a hint of sweetness to it. I generally love rose scented products but for some reason the scent of this Rose Skin Detoxer is just not my cup of tea :(

[How To Use: Real Fresh Skin Detoxer in Rose?]
1. Squeeze a decent amount of product out
2. Apply onto dry skin
3. Count to 10
4. Add a little water to your hands
5. Gently massage your face in circular motions, the product will begin to foam up
6. Rinse with water

This is the amount I typically use for my entire face. I would usually squeeze the product on the back of my hand before applying it on my face. By the way, air gets trapped in the packaging easily so I suggest tilting the tube and only opening the cover when the cover is facing upwards haha.

Apply the product evenly all over dry skin. Although it is mentioned on the product info to apply a relatively thick layer, I personally prefer applying an even thin layer instead because I noticed that whenever I apply a thick layer, it's rather difficult to wash the mask off, not to mention time consuming too. Which is why applying a thin layer feels best for me.

After 10 seconds, I'll wet my face and gently massage the mask into my skin using circular motions. You can see that the gel is bubbling up into foam when it comes into contact with water. After massaging my face for only a few seconds, I'll rinse it off in the shower.

Oh and, paiseh the GIF above is a speed up version so please be slow and gentle on your own face!!

[Thoughts on Real Fresh Skin Detoxer - Rose]
🌹 Rating: 7/10 🌹
For starters, I'd say the product works amazing as a gentle morning cleanser because it cleaned my face really well and my skin felt a little softer too. However, in terms of a rose mask, I don't find it moisturizing enough as I was kinda hoping to see some glow on my skin after using it? :( Nonetheless, compared to other gel-foam cleansers that are often too dry for my liking, this Rose Skin Detoxer tops em all. With this said, it's a little tough to explain this but I don't recommend leaving the mask on longer than 10 seconds because even though my skin felt softer, it didn't feel moisturized either and using it longer than 10 seconds may end up being a little too drying for the skin.

Overall, I think this wash off mask is gentle enough for all skin types as long as you are not allergic to any of the ingredients used. I'm currently using this as my daily morning and sometimes night cleanser, so at the rate I'm going one tube would probably last me a little over 3 months

One thing though, I noticed the mask is rather difficult to wash off when applied a thick layer so that's why I personally prefer applying only a thin layer. If you prefer applying a thicker layer, one tube would probably last you a little over 2 months.

Last but not least, the Real Fresh Skin Detoxer in Rose contains 150ml of product and is retailing for RM43 per tube on Althea's website.

Real Fresh Skin Detoxer - Green Tea [Purifying]
Next up we have the Green Tea Skin Detoxer. This green tea infused mask is recommended to be used during the night to purify your skin. As your skin cell regeneration is most active at 10p.m, the Green Tea Real Fresh Skin Detoxer is supposed to help purify the skin and strengthen your skin's barrier while smoothing out roughness for a healthy complexion. By doing so it also boosts your skin's natural regeneration process by ensuring that your skin is clarified and ready to rest.

Similar to the rose one earlier, this Green Tea Skin Detoxer also has a 2-in-1 function where it also doubles as a gel-foam cleanser but with a mild exfoliating bonus to it. After acting as a 'mask' for 10 seconds, when added water, it will react with the coconut extract in the product and lather up into foamy bubbles. This transforms the mask into a mild-exfoliating cleanser that removes any residue and dirt from your pores.

[List of ingredients]
Water, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Potassium Cocoyl Glycinate, Acrylates Copolymer, Peg-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Piper Methysticum Leaf/Root/Stem Extract, Melia Azadirachta Leaf Extract, Phellodendron Amurense Bark Extract, Melia Azadirachta Flower Extract, Coccinia Indica Fruit Extract, Solanum Melongena (Eggplant) Fruit Extract, Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Extract, Pteris Multifida Extract, Cynara Scolymus (Artichoke) Leaf Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Flower Extract, Ocimum Sanctum Leaf Extract, Ulmus Davidiana Root Extract, Amaranthus Caudatus Seed Extract, Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract, Corallina Officinalis Extract, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Powder, Methylpropanediol, Butylene Glycol, Polyquaternium-51, Beta-Glucan, Betaine, Fragrance, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol

[Key ingredients]
Jeju Green tea baby leaves + powder
No doubt that one of the main key ingredients used would be green tea. Talk about captain obvious much?? Jokes aside, this product is formulated using 100% Premium Jeju Green Tea. Baby green tea leaves collected in spring are chosen as a key ingredient as they are are rich in Catechin - a substance rich in antioxidants containing 5 times more Vitamin C than lemons. This makes it great at protecting your skin from UV damage. The Green Tea Skin Detoxer also contains Jeju Green Tea powder which helps to relieve irritation and redness quickly by providing sebum control and removing impurities from the skin.

Just like the rose mask, Glycerin is also another key ingredient used in this product to attract moisture to our skin as well as forming a protective layer to prevent moisture loss.

The Green Tea Skin Detoxer has a similar thick gel consistency as the rose one but felt slightly thicker because of the grounded tea leaves in it. The mask is also green in colour because of the green tea powder used.

Besides that, you could also spot tiny bits of grounded baby tea leaves giving the mask an exfoliating function too. Even though you can feel the grounded tea leaves gliding your skin, as long as you don't massage your skin too roughly, the exfoliating process is actually quite gentle.

Scent wise, this mask smells really refreshing. It doesn't smell like matcha powder/drink/food but it does carry the smell of leaves with a hint of sweetness to it. I think compared to the rose one, I actually prefer the scent of the green tea one better.

[How to use: Real Fresh Skin Detoxer in Green Tea?]
1. Squeeze a decent amount of product out
2. Apply product onto dry skin
3. Count to 10
4. Add a little water to your hands
5. Very gently massage your face in circular motions, the product will begin to foam up and the finely grounded tea leaves will then gently exfoliate your skin during this process (rmb be gentle ok)
6. Rinse with water

This is the amount I typically use for my entire face.

Apply the product all over dry skin. Just like the rose one, I personally prefer applying an even thin layer all over my face because I find applying a thick layer makes it difficult and too time consuming to wash off.

After 10 seconds, I'll wet my face and very gently massage the mask into my skin using circular motions. You can see that the gel is bubbling up into foam when it comes into contact with water and this is when you will feel the grounded tea leaves exfoliating your skin. After massaging a few seconds, I'll rinse it off in the shower.

[Thoughts on Real Fresh Skin Detoxer - Green Tea]
🍃 Rating: 6.5/10 🍵
If I didn't have sensitive skin: 8.5/10 💚
I think the Real Fresh Skin Detoxer in Green Tea is overall a really good exfoliating cleanser. My skin felt slightly smoother and on top of it I also noticed a very slight glow on my face after washing the mask off! A tip: when using this is that even though the grounded tea leaves are pretty fine, if you were to massage your face too fast/roughly, there's still a chance of over exfoliating by accident.

Based on how it felt on my skin, I would only recommend this green tea mask to those with non-sensitive normal to oily skin types. As for those with dry skin/acne prone/sensitive skin, I wouldn't recommend this or generally any products with a grainy exfoliating element because depending on how dry/sensitive/prone to acne your skin is, using even the mildest grainy exfoliating products may lead to over-exfoliating/irritation. By the way, if you have acne prone skin/sensitive skin, I recommend looking into gentler exfoliators like peeling gels for example instead. However if its just a few pimples here and there(or you really really want to try this) then just take note to be extra gentle when exfoliating and perhaps only using it 1-2 times a week instead of daily.

Currently I would use this on alternate days because I feel that my skin is a little too sensitive to use this on a daily basis. If I were to use it too often, my face would at times look a little red and feel a little warm too (when that happens I just have to put on an aloe mask to cool it down).  Apart from that, remember to only leave the mask on your face for 10 seconds. If you feel the need to, you can also wash it off earlier but I wouldn't recommend leaving it on any longer than 10 seconds in case it gets too drying for the skin.

Lastly, each tube consists of 150ml and it retails for RM43 per tube on Althea's website.

[Take note on...]
Keep in mind that these products are formulated using natural ingredients like tea leaves and rose petals. This means that once you remove the safety seal on the packaging, over time the product may change colour as it oxidize. As long you're using it within the expiry date, the product remains safe to use :)

When it comes to skincare and makeup there are two types of expiry dates to take note of. One would be the shelf life of a product before opening and the other being it's shelf life after opening.

Which is why I find it really thoughtful that the team behind this product has included this simple feature on it's packaging. If you turn the product to the back, there is a little space for you to write the opening date of your product. For those that are really particular with their products' expiry dates, this feature would actually help you keep track of when you should stop using the product.

My batch of Skin Detoxers expires in October, 2021 before opening, and typically for wash off masks, the shelf life after opening is approximately 12 months. Though at the rate of how often I'm using this (daily for rose, alternate nights for green tea), I think I would finish both within 3-4 months time.

[Overall thoughts on both]
I've been using both masks for almost a month now and I did notice some results. As these masks are meant to be used only for 10 seconds each time, the immediate results are very minimal and sometimes barely even noticeable. However, on a long term run I did feel an improvement in terms of skin texture and softness.

The green tea skin detoxer's exfoliating feature really did help improve my skin texture over time and surprisingly I find it more moisturizing than the rose skin detoxer too?? At the moment, I'm still dealing with acne + post-acne scars so apart from all the acne bumps, my skin's overall texture is actually pretty smooth. Sadly, because my skin is on the sensitive side, I'll try my best to not use this too often as even the mildest grainy exfoliating products are sometimes a little harsh for my skin.

Although not very obvious, I think using the Rose Skin Detoxer over time did gradually improve the softness of my skin. Even though it wasn't as hydrating as I had in mind, my skin doesn't feel dry after using it either. Overall I would still consider the Rose Skin Detoxer as some sort of a 'mild softness booster' to my standard skincare routine while being a great gentle cleanser that I can use daily and even twice a day - once in the morning and once at night.

Now let's talk about some extras like it's packaging and price. Packaging wise, Althea has once again brought us a beautiful minimalist packaging design that I love oh so much. Personally, I love Muji's minimalist concept so naturally I'd love the translucent matte finish on these Real Fresh Skin Detoxers where I could easily see how much product is left. As for the pricing, each tube of Real Fresh Skin Detoxer is retailed at RM43 for 150ml/tube. Since I'll be using these on a daily/twice weekly basis and considering that it'll last me for 2-4 months on average, I think the prices for the Real Fresh Skin Detoxers are pretty reasonable.

[Repurchase?]
Overall, both Real Fresh Skin Detoxers had a fair share of ups and downs for me. I don't mind using both but in terms of repurchasing, I'd pick the Rose Skin Detoxer as a cleanser because I have sensitive + acne prone skin so I think in a long term run, as much as I love the Green Tea Skin Detoxer, it might be too harsh for my sensitive skin as sometimes my face does look a little red/feel a little hot after using the green tea one. The Rose Skin Detoxer on the other hand makes my skin feel cleaner and softer but not as smooth and hydrating as the green tea one @_@

Do you guys know how big of a dilemma is this hahaha

Though the main reason why I'm favouring the Rose over the Green Tea is because my skin never gets a sensitive reaction from using the Rose Skin Detoxer and because it's more gentle, I could actually use the product more often than the Green tea one. So based on my own skin's preference, when it comes to exfoliating, I would prefer using peeling gels as those generally feel more gentle on my skin. With this said, I won't consider the Rose Skin Detoxer a life changing beauty fix as the immediate results after 10 seconds really can't compare to a 10 minute mask but despite not liking how it smells, because the pricing is reasonable and the results do show over time, I really don't mind repurchasing in the future!

However for my normal-oily skin friends out there, if you ask me 'which delivers better results in a shorter amount of time?' I'd say the green tea one because compared to the Rose one, the Green Tea Skin Detoxer delivers better and more immediate results being more hydrating than the rose and the exfoliating bit really helps with my skin texture but sadly products with any form of grainy exfoliating elements just aren't quite suited for my sensitive skin type so after finishing this tube, I'll just 乖乖(be a good girl) go back to my peeling gels for exfoliating T.T

[How much + Where to purchase?]
After looking at the results from both wash off masks, I can also understand why the Real Fresh Skin Detoxer in Rose and Green Tea are recommended to be used as a set. The Green tea skin detoxer will give your skin the smoothness it craves while the rose skin detoxer will give your skin the softness it wants. If you're interested in trying Althea X Get It Beauty's Real Fresh Skin Detoxer, each tube(green tea or rose) is retailing on Althea's website for RM43 each.

However for those interested in getting both green tea and rose to try, Althea is currently selling the Real Fresh Skin Detoxer set for RM77 on their website HERE!!
