My attempt on a DIY BB Cushion Foundation ft. It's My Cushion Case Set

13 December 2016

Being not that much of a 'crafty-hands-on-person', the word 'DIY' doesn't exactly click with me. But seeing so many DIY BB Cushion foundations out there, I wanted to try DIY-ing one for myself too! A good thing about this project was that it kinda helped me find a purpose for one of my abandoned L'oreal foundation that was a little bit too dry for my liking. I'd also like to highlight that this was kind of an experimental self project because I really have no idea what are the Dos' & Donts' when it comes to creating your own BB Cushion foundation.

So my attempt on this was pretty much just mixing most of my face makeup routine together and pray that I didn't waste anything :x Thankfully, I was actually pretty happy with the end result, so if you're interested to know my concoction on a DIY BB Cushion Foundation, do continue reading!

First thing you need would be a BB Cushion kit. The only BB Cushion I own at the moment is my IOPE 4th Gen Air Cushion and I'm still not done with it (plus I have a refill too!) so during my previous Althea haul, I got myself this "Cherry Blossom DIY Cushion set" for RM19.

Next thing you need would be your choice of foundation + skin care products. I already had a medium-full coverage L'oreal True Match foundation at home, so I'll be using that. Personally I wasn't quite sure how much of everything I should be using but one thing I know for sure was that I was very generous with the amount of foundation used because I really wanted to maintain a decent coverage. My goal was to simple "make it less drying"

I've mixed my "BB cream" concoction bit by bit so there won't be any un-even-ess going on.
A rough description of how much exactly my "agak-agak" portions are:

01. 13-18 pumps of foundation
02. 1/2 tea spoon of Laneige water sleeping mask
03. 1/2 tea spoon of Histomer's Oily Skin Formula Oil Free Complex Serum
04. 1/4 tea spoon of Benefit Cosmetic's "that gal" brightening primer
05. 3 drops of SK-II Facial treatment essence (be careful on this because you don't want it too diluted)

yup, very foundation heavy indeed.

After you're done mixing everything, it's time to "test your BB Cream" If you could spot the disappearance of the mole on my hand, you could probably tell that I'm pretty happy with the coverage haha. I also managed to make it less drying but still have it dry matte! *cheers*

When you're happy with your DIY BB Cream, it's time to turn it into a cushion foundation by adding the cushion in.

Now start stabbing your cushion so it'll absorb the product!

Done stabbing? Test it out again.

Once you're happy with everything, clean up the edges.

and Viola! There you go, your very own BB Cushion foundation! Economical + guarantee to suit your skin tone! I mean technically to make this happen, I've only incurred RM19 since everything else was already something I use in my normal routine/have at home.

Hope you enjoy this post! Let me know in the comments what you include for your DIY Cushion foundation!

    1. Cause most of the time my skin's pretty dry and even moisturizer doesn't help. Actually recently found out that Laneige's sleeping mask can instantly hide my occasional dry skin so I've decided to include it in the BB cushion haha
